Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My placement is in the Analysis Centre of Rolls-Royce motor cars, and I assist with integrating new hardware and software changes to the vehicles. This can involve taking measurements from dataloggers fitted in our fleet of test vehicles and specialist recording equipment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed my time as a Degree Apprenticeship at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars. My knowledge of electronics and electrical has vastly past what I know at the beginning, making me a more valuable asset to the team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed hugely in my practical skills within the Analysis workshop, such as using Dewesoft and Vector tooling. Both specialise in data capture of electrical signals. Additionally, my communication skills have improved with building confidence in each meeting and discussion with my team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The program has had little structure given by BMW group, but actions have been recently taken to ensure my last few months are supported and for future apprentices.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
The program has had little support given by BMW group, but actions have been recently taken to ensure my last few months are supported and future apprentices. Fortunately, my manager has given me the support I require when issues arise.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
My training provider is Chichester University. Fortunately, I was a part of the first students to go through the programme resulting in a poor organisation and a large workload. But they have given moderate support with taking the student's thoughts and feedback into improving the course's course content and workload.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The knowledge from my qualification has helped me massively with many topics appearing in my day to day job. Furthermore, even if the degree includes cases that are not used, having to understand complex subjects helps stretch you to learn complex issues at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a range of activities, this includes football clubs, go karting, charities help, and social events organised by each department such as meals out.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Overall, my time at Rolls-Royce motor cars has dramatically developed my social skills, confidence, and knowledge of general engineering. However, with a paid degree and a plethora of practical skills in electronics, I couldn't recommend this to a person interested in automotive electrical engineering.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
My best tip for high employability is to have a passion for engineering with a practical example to illustrate this—best of luck.
