Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Morning meeting then carry out the work that has been set out from the meeting, which is carried out. depending on placement a report might have to generated, which might have to be sent of that day or the next depending the type of report. after this the list of tasks is carried out in order of importance.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

it is not a very good apprenticeship, at the start it was very poor and it has not improved that much over the past year from the previous year, have had some placements and training, but it has not really been that much in all. some of the team are good, but at there is some that dont really care and when placed with them its hard to learn good skills from them. hopefully it gets better. i think there is a major lack of people that truly care about their jobs and know what they are doing to learn from.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Only really have improved excel skill which i dont really want to improve as i want to be doing engineering work with electrical work. have developed more skills with mechanical side of the car the interior side of the car, again i dont really want to do as i am doing a electrical degree and that has no relevance to the work done. i understand that i have to under stand the process of the other parts and will require to remove them to get to electrical parts, which does not happen much.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

very poor, but it has got a lot better over the time, the uni course is very poorly structured. it has got a little but they do change thing last minute including coursework percentage mark, after it has been agreed. At work it has got better if placements and new management for apprenticeships

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have had a lot of support from my employer when i need more time off work to be able to complete my uni work, and letting me do the work at work, they do understand the uni work required. what i have asked for i have been given which i think is good with no questions asked.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I havent received any support from the uni, they are to be honest terrible. changing thing last minute and not saying when an important document has been change. from my previous apprentice there was a lot more support and that was on a level 3 i would except atleast the same if not more for a level 3

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

it has very little relevance to my job, i am learning more thing which are relevant to my previous apprentice than they are to this one. hopefully this improves over time but at the moment i cant see it getting better. i think it is the wrong course for the job at hand.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

to start with there was not much that i was aware off, but there has been more and they have made an effort to make these events more available. which is good and have said will progress more events soon. it should be made clearer that their are these events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?

Why?

there is the WTA which as an apprentice it is easy to go negative but to go positive it is had to get back have to salary sacrifice or overtime, which with uni work it adds extra pressure. it should be that like the other employees get 2 hours every week it should be the same for apprenticeships

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?

read all of these reviews, make sure that is defiantly what you want to do, it is alot more manufacturing than engineering. alot of repeat work which can get a bit more boring. just make sure that you take your time with the application and it will take ages to hear back from them
