Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I come into work and check what my placement is then depending on where I am in the plant decides what I do for the day. For example last time I was at work I was shadowing a process leader so I was experiencing what they do on a day to day basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do really enjoy the apprentice program as I am able to get placements all around the plant so that I can get a wide knowledge or each department at Rolls Royce. The team at each department are really helpful and want the apprentices to learn as much as they can so they will do everything to help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt how to sew and upholster at work and at college to a good level. I have learnt the differences between modern and traditional upholstery. I came into this apprenticeship with no idea how to sew or how to even use a sewing machine however in these past 6 months I am able to sew confidently.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I liked how we had a week when we first started to meet the team and it eased us into the company. I feel like the program is well structured at work as every month - 3 months there are different placements which our trainer has provided. If I ever have any troubles there is always someone there who is able to support either the trainer or mentor, or anyone in the plant.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
If I ever have a problem with anything I can ask my mentor for any guidance or help with either at work or at college. However if it is a problem with the apprentice scheme then there are two trainers who are there to help with the problems. I also can go to my work team if there is any problems with the work I'm currently doing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have had one meeting with my training provider from college. He did ask if I had any problems which I did have one and he was able to give me guidance and help me with my problems. He also checked if everything is okay and how I think the apprenticeship is going and if I need any help with the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
What I am learning at college does help at work but only when I am on a certain placement. For example at college I started off with no idea of how to use a machine or how to sew, and I knew I would have a placement at work where I would either have to sew or upholster. Although the machines are different from work at college at least I was able to gain some knowledge before going into the placement.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are extra-curricular activities which I can get involved with. For example I am able to go back to my old school to talk about the apprenticeship and be there to answer any questions for people who are keen on joining the company. There is also a social event happening with all the apprentice as we don't get to see each other.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like it is a well structure company, which I have really enjoyed my time working here. Everyone is very helpful and wants the best out of you, while working there is always a positive atmosphere which I think is a really important when joining a company. There is also a lot of progression.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
The the applications process is very long, For example I first applied in January and then had to go through a process but then only to start in September which I feel like it is a very long time. I would've liked to be told a bit more when I got the job, because when I go the job I didn't hear back from anyone for around 2/3 months which then I didn't know if I did still have the job or not. Which was a bit of a nightmare as I have left my other one.
