Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work on the machines that manufacture the engine parts. these parts are the crankshaft, engine body/block and the engine head. i work with a shift on a weekly shift rotation to gain more focused skills and to work close with one team on the shop floor. i have also worked in the basement too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
i greatly enjoyed the first 3 years of the apprenticeship with the first year being spent at the college for a full time lvl 2 and half of the BTEC (lvl 3). the second and third year being spent working in a large range of areas in the machining side of the business.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
i have further developed a myriad of skills, these being fault finding skills, skills when using different tools and equipment, working at height skills, lifting equipment skills, team working skills. i have also been on several training courses to gain a larger range of skills and acquire training in the courses.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
the overall structure and organisation of the programme could be a little better. with the higher years working on shift rotations, there seems to be confusion with when we are on site next with our manager. one of the managers in machining has organised well structured placement plan for the apprentices to ensure that we have good exposure to as many areas in the business as possible.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
if i feel i want to go on a training course for anything specific, i am always supported by my employer, just need to give some pushing to ensure it happens
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
if we desperately need a little more time to work on qualifications we can ask for a day dedicated to working towards them
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
i do not feel that the higher education college course i am doing for the final 2 years of my apprenticeship is of much use to my job role as the selected units for it are completely different to what would be useful
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
there are some yes, however have been postponed for the past 2 years due to covid
