Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work within the government and public sector of audit where we audit the accounts of local governments, NHS etc. On a day to day basis i am assigned to a specific engagement where i will undertake testing and discuss with the client different areas of their accounts which we are auditing
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
i enjoy my programme quite a lot. The job itself i find really interesting and enables me to experience different types of accounts and clients. There are also many opportunities to get involved with whether directly in my team or through the apprenticeship itself. I like how we go on block release for college allowing us to focus specifically on one exam

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a variety of new skills within audit. I had no experience in this job prior to joining but alongside audit skills i have additionally been able to develop skills such as through excel and additionally presenting, team work, problem solving and communication. These all have built towards improving my confidence.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured and organised. We have resourcing timetables which show us in advance what we are booked to the upcoming week as well as showing when we are due to have college for studies. We each have apprenticeship coaches who are there to support us on the apprenticeship
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. My managers and seniors are always keen and willing to help when i need it and will always provide guidance with the apprenticeship. This is similar with the professional qualifications and apprenticeship team who additionally support us for matters that arent as job specific. I have a medical condition and the firm has worked with me to accommodate my needs
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Kaplan provide a wide range of support by having the contact a tutor service available throughout the day as well as providing extra content and tutor videos for topics on exams. Unfortunately i started my qualifications in covid which meant all learning i have done online and i feel that this has meant we have had less support than if these lessons were in person however now they are going back to classroom teaching meaning the support is increasing
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification enables me to understand why we have to do the areas of work on accounts. It also enables me to experience different areas of accounting which make understanding certain documents a lot easier. The main way in which it helps to perform better is by it teaching us the different laws and regulations in which must be followed and gives examples of where these could appear
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are a variety of activities to get involved in. We have 'networks' which act as societies that you can join if it relates to your interests which allow you to meet like-minded individuals who have similar interests to you. There are a vast amount of volunteering experiences as well as opportunities to get involved with giving talks to the firm, schools and other networking events
