Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I meet families to discuss and arrange funerals for their loved ones. This involves going through everything with them and then making sure all of the relevant third parties have been booked along with flowers, coffins etc for the day.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
A bit of a mix. I really disliked the beginning as I had no idea what I was doing and it was based on personal development which I hate. When it moved onto the next topic, I began to find it more engaging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I came into the role completely in the dark and at the start of the pandemic so I have learnt a lot of new skills along the way.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
I don't feel it is. I have no idea what is expected of me long term so just plod through the activities that have been currently set. Occasionally, I have had to ask for work as it hasn't been noticed I have completed it all. I have also had to complete functional skills alongside.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
Not a lot. I struggle with having enough time to complete the work and get told I have to be selfish and make time for myself but this is easier said than done.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Not much. She is good at responding to email if I have a question but when we have teams meetings, I generally come away feeling really confused and unsure what I am meant to be doing. When I ask for clarification, I often still don't understand and then feel silly to ask again.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
It hasn't helped much so far but I feel it may in the long run. Due to the delay in starting the apprenticeship, I was already in the role for a while so knew a fair amount. Our funeral home is one of the busier ones.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
This is difficult as I have two children at home. Being part time, I unfortunately miss a lot of these as I have other responsibilities.
