Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I started the apprenticeship in the ASK Team where you do general business activities such as rolling forward accounts, branding documents, booking hotels, flights and train tickets. The tasks that come through can also be diary management tasks and setting up Teams meetings. You get opportunities to get involved in projects in other areas of the business.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoyed the ASK team but the work can get a bit repetitive as it is similar work coming through. However, the project work which you get put on is very interesting and keeps you busy. The project work can be in many different teams in the business so you will find an area which you enjoy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills and have developed my existing skills. As an apprentice you speak to many members of the business from Partners to other apprentices which has helped me develop my communication skills and confidence. I have also developed my time management skills as you have to balance the work and study at the same time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The online virtual induction was very organised and structured as you got to speak to the apprentices you are joining with. The Business programme is structured as you know what team you are in and you can get guidance on future steps. The only this is that some work which you need to complete for the BPP work, you may not do so you have to find ways to complete it.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

There are lots of groups which you can join to find people with similar interests as you - personally I have not joined any but I know people who have. I think apprentices in different areas of the business do not mix so maybe that could be improved for future apprentices.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

So far I have only had one meeting with my training provider. We have coursework which we have to complete and we receive feedback on it to allow us to improve our work. This is very beneficial as we get to know what we are working towards (Distinction or Pass).

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification helps me to perform better in my role as I have many skills which I have to complete to meet the apprenticeship. I have list of skills and behaviours which I need to meet to complete the apprenticeship so this is very beneficial in and for my job role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Personally I have not been involved in any extra-curricular activities but I know that there are many on. Normally, the events are run in the Canary Wharf office but other offices may have local events running. I know that there are also sports teams but that is London based - not sure about local offices.

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?

Yes

Why?

I would as you get an insight into the business and find areas which you want to explore further. Personally I would not want to stay in the ASK team forever as there are no career development opportunities in that area. As the apprenticeship gives you opportunities to work on projects in different areas I would recommend.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?

I would say be yourself and not to overthink the application process. If you try your best then that's the best you can do. The KPMG process is not too complicated and all the instructions are written out for you to refer back to. It also doesn't matter about age either.
