Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My First year role British Airways involves studying away from home in the Cotswolds with LRTT training. I spend my time currently learning key modules that will help me become competent with a hanger environment and achieve my part 66 catA licence, while working on training aircraft in a part 147 environment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
British airways has an amazing work culture that I am glad to be apart of, the apprenticeship I am on is very well organised and it succeeds my expectations by a landslide. Overall I am extremely enjoying my programme.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have currently passed modules that cover skills like; Hand skills (working material into assemblies), Maths, Physics, human factors, aerodynamics and hanger environment based skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The introduction into the apprenticeship is very well organised and thought through. The training provided by LRTT is also very good. We have weekly drop-in sessions to talk about anything that is worrying us and support from British airways is amazing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We have weekly drop-in sessions where we communicate issues we have with our managers. This provides guidance on certain issues. In our second year we will meet mentors who will be able to help us with issues following on from this year.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
LRTT are very supportive during and after modules and often ensure there is remedial exams organised for those who miss the mark. They provide a lot of guidance with revision which is useful for me who has not been in a school environment for a long time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I am currently undertaking tasks in a part 147 hanger environment, which provides me with an undertaking to the workflow and systems used to organise work load in a real hanger. This is a good way I can put the theory learnt from modules into practice.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
British Airways do not currently have any extra-curricular or social events/sports activities that I have been made aware of, however there is often a recruitment drive at events in colleges and engineering events. BA better world is a drive they are currently running regarding sustainable aviation fuel.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
British Airways has an amazing management team, especially in the engineering department. The training and care they provide is outstanding and I have not once regretted my decision. The apprenticeship they provide sets me up to a carrer in aeronautical engineering which will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Applying is easy and the process is mainly online. Gain some engineering experience, wether that’s from school, college or extra curricular activities which you can speak about in CVS and interviews, even fixing a bike or car shows interest. Prove you deserve a place on their apprenticeship, be confident.
