Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a maintenance technician apprentice, this involves completing engineering rotations such as electrical, fluid power, welding etc. We also have college work such as Maths, materials, health and safety from Birmingham Metropolitan College. This all contributes towards the first and as you reach later years you start placements and other activities around the Plant
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the new experience and skills that I acquire from the apprenticeship program. It is very different to my previous experiences before so I have thoroughly enjoyed the apprenticeship program so far. The new skills I have learnt has helped with my enjoyment of the apprenticeship, because I love hands on activities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills and improved on existing skills. The main new skill I have learnt is my understanding of the different engineering branches, for example I have learnt new core hand skills in wiring and rewiring electrical components. I have developed hands on skills in basic DIY and the use of tools and equipment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I feel as if the structure of the program is well put together by BMW Group, with the opportunities and incentives they offer it is put together well. However, BMET I think can be improved with their schedule of workload, it needs to be better aligned with BMW Group in terms of workload.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive support from my employer whenever I need it, it is not full on and I find that it is pretty relaxed unless you need support, as this helps with my progression. Reviews are held between BMW and BMET regularly to check up on the apprentices and see how everything is going.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
BMET offer support where necessary, the workload is satisfactory and whenever support is needed we can ask for additional help. Sometimes, lessons cannot be taken all in straight away so having an option of additional support is key. I have so far been able to submit all my assignments successfully so not much additional support has been needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I am hopeful and confident that my qualification will help me perform better in my full time role at the end of my apprenticeship. Also, I know the qualification helps me perform better at the current moment in time as all the work relates to the tasks we have to complete.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At BMW Group we have some activities such as social nights on a Thursday that is easy to take part in. There are other networks such as charity games, newsletter teams etc. Whenever you maybe interested in joining these teams you just have to send them an email and they will talk you through the process.
