Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My overall role consists of working alongside my large group of peers to aid businesses make decisions to improve there performance from conducting independent business reviews to guiding a business through administration. This can include a range of problem solving skills which I develop day by day from working with experienced individuals.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I throughly enjoy my programme, there is a great mix of working on client engagements, studying towards my level 7 degree in Accountancy and Taxation and also networking both internally (with my team) and externally (with other apprentices from different firms) via the BCASS network. I feel very supported in my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a wide range of different skills from problem solving, communication skills internally (with peers) and externally (with clients) , decision making and analysis skills. The skill I have mostly developed has been my data analysis skills which were widely used in a previous engagement i was part of.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured with a mix of work and study periods. The study periods are well spaced out throughout the year and I receive enough time to dedicate myself to the exams. I have an apprenticeship coach who is always available to answer any questions I may have about my progression.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer via many different individuals. I have a buddy within my team who is there to answer any questions, big or small. I also have a counsellor who ensures I am performing well and checks up on my well being throughout busy periods. Finally I also have an apprenticeship coach who ensures I am successfully progressing through my qualification. This is all alongside the supportive colleges that I work with daily.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider offers a good amount of support, the tutors are available to contact throughout the whole of the study period with any questions. However due to being assigned a different tutor for each exam there is not a consistent point of contact when not actively studying towards an exam.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The qualification is directly linked to the work I complete on a daily basis. Each exam I complete widens my knowledge which demonstrates itself when I then go on to work on a new client engagement and I feel much more confident in my understanding of the work performed.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is a huge push for networking within EY which involves going on many socials each month, these can be networking with peers or with other apprentices from other firms. The Birmingham Chartered Accountancy Student Society offers events throughout the year from sports competitions, quiz nights to balls.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I enjoy being able to work towards a professional qualification whilst working for a highly recognised accountancy firm and gaining experience. I am also able to grow my working network and learn and develop from highly insightful colleagues who all have a wide range of different experiences that I can learn from.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Ensure you complete each of the application stages carefully and precisely and remain yourself throughout the process. I would recommend researching EY's values and identify those that you agree and relate to and demonstrate this within the interview process. Once the job is secured I recommend saying YES! to every opportunity you are offered as this will help you develop hugely!
