Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
The day-to-day experience varies and is totally dependant on the stage of the audit and the type of entity you are auditing. Usually it would consist of completing workpapers, project management activities and performing testing such as test of controls.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It is work and won't always be an enjoyable experience, but considering the alternatives (attending university or taking a gap year) I am significantly better off and it's nice to get paid.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Regarding transferable skills, I've become proficient in Excel thanks to the company training resources, become more confident in being able to communicate with seniors and clients as well as general organisation skills using OneNote. I've also developed other audit and accounting specific skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Quite well organised - there are usually no exams during busy season, and if there is an upcoming exam, you are expected to leave on time to study so it is well balanced.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is plenty of support available both for general questions about work as well as wellbeing. It won't feel like school since it is a workplace, but support is definitely available.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A good amount of support is provided. Lessons and sufficient resources are all provided, and you can bring up any questions you may have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification is necessary to really progress in an accounting career. It will be necessary to understand the accounting principles as an auditor, so it is very much useful in aiding performance.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are social activities and other communities available at work. It will require more intentional effort in comparison to joining extra-curricular activities at school or university, but the option is still there.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's a pretty good company which will at the very least train you up and pay for your qualifications - so whether you like the company or not, you're getting a good deal. You can always decide for yourself after getting qualified what the next steps are.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Understand the role you're applying to (try talk to people who are in the same role) and show that you are capable and willing to learn
