Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Sitting down with families and arranging funerals for loved ones, Taking calls and making bookings for the crematorium or flowers etc. Also helping families to have chapel visits with there loved ones. Keeping the branch open and performing admin work. General office tasks like cleaning. Going out on community work for local causes and supporting the food stores.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I found it challenging due to covid outbreak but also rewarding at the same time. I learnt to keep trying and not to give up. Unfortunately other colleagues didn't complete the course but I felt a huge sense of achievement when I did.
I enjoyed the support I had from my manager.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt to evaluate my work and also consider my learning styles. I enjoyed exploring different areas that I have not done yet e.g burial at sea and all the legal requirements to that. I have learnt to be more confident in my role and how I can improve.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well with clear objectives for each part of the course. I felt fully informed and the end point assessment was set out clear to me of what was expected. The only thing which was an issue was the length of the course but this was expected due to covid out break.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

Alot of support to have time out and complete my work. I was able to seek support if required and my learning coach was very supportive with phone calls, face to face meetings when possible and emails. My employer was very supportive during my course and I couldn't of asked for anything better.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Alot of support documentation and I found the bud portal good. Anything that was sent to me by the training provider was clear and I felt supported. Really overall happy with the support I received and no problems at all.
I liked the introduction pack to the course that helped.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helped me to look at different areas I have not explored before and reflect on my work so far. I have become more confident and seeking higher roles and qualifications in my line of work now. I feel a sense of achievement and would definitely be interested in more courses.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At my work we are very community based and so go out on community events often. We have alot of events in Manchester because head office is there and I have put my name down to attend events such a pride. We have Yammer to support each other and also teams sessions to attend.

Why?

Such a great company to work for. I have been with the company over 3 years now and have had support for training and career but also the benefits of working for the co-op are amazing. I enjoy what I do and feel part of the co-op family. I would definitely recommend to others.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?

Consider community ideas and being yourself. I would recommend looking at how we support local causes and an introduction to co-op history. When applying there is an online questionnaire so consider your answer and in the interview just be yourself. Try and look at different roles as it's good to know what other members of the team do and how you will support them.
