Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role consists of making calls and receiving calls from clients. I send emails to my clients daily and chase responses from external companies if i have not heard a response within 4 weeks. I draft and post letters out to companies and I also file important documents away. I liase with governement bodies such as HMRC and DWP in order to progress my cases.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot. It allows for me to be connected and form professional relationships with people all across England and Wales. I was worried that my skills in certain departments such as my communication skills would have been a barrier on my programme but the training i was provided was enough to help me improve this skill and highlighted to me that i will be supported. Furthermore, there are a lot of opportunities for growth on this programme which is really appealing.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

It is important in my role to be able to manage my time well. I have developed my skills in time management and organisation so i can work more efficiently and meet strict deadlines.
As i take and make calls frequently, my communication stills have also improved dramatically.
My ability to write and draft letters and emails professionally have also improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I first started out in the assistant team and once i was given an opportunity to move up in the company, it was revealed to me that i was not meant to start in the admin role. I like the structure of starting in admin first because it allowed me to gain the skills i needed to do well in my new role but it became clear to me at that point that the programme was not organised that well.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My manager is always there to support me and has told us numerous times to go to them if we have any problems. There is a positive attitude towards employees metal health and it appears to me that the employees health is always prioritised over their role in the firm.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

5/5

I have little support from my training provider mainly because i do not require it. I know that there are programs and sessions out there that i can use if i need to and my training provider always highlights the need to seek help if needed. I am aware of all the things i would need to do if i needed help or support from my provider.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have not completed my qualification yet and i have not seen it help me in my role currently however i am aware that there will be modules that relate to my role a lot more than the ones i am currently studying and i will be able to apply that theoretical knowledge a lot better once the time comes.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I do not get involved in any social activities at work. I aware of different opportunities that i could take part in at my work place such as raising money for charities and taking part in a fair trade baking competition. However, by being part of a Co-op member, every time i shop at one of our food stores, i am inadvertently raising money for selected charities.

Would you recommend The Co-op to a friend?

Yes

Why?

There are a lot of opportunities within Co-op to help one grow. The support system here is very good and if you find yourself needing some type of support there are a lot of recourses you can use and anyone at the firm would be happy to help you and it is encouraged. Your health here matters and i think that is really important in order to do well in ones role.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?

Do research on the company before applying and make sure you know a lot on all the different branches of law we cover - especially probate and estate administration. Do not be afraid to ask questions - they are there to be asked and those at the firm will be happy to answer any queries you may have. Everyone dresses smart on their first day but it is not needed and you will be the most over dressed in the office ! just try and be friendly and figure out why you want to work at co-op and how their business model, views and way of working align with your views and way of working. Try and find things that are similar between yourself and the firm.
