Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is an Infrastructure Delivery Manager. This requires Project Management knowledge to deliver required infrastructure for the organisation. This involves ensuring the delivery is done within the required timescale, within budget and to a high level of quality whilst managing risks and following the required governance throughout. Ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed of the delivery progress,. In addition aligning with the strategic objectives of the organisation in all that is undertaken.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme has been hard work, as expected, given the level of qualification that will be obtained at the end. This has been at times very difficult (especially during the pandemic when there was a requirement to work from home - so learning had to be adapted). However, as the knowledge is gained and I can then begin to apply this, motivation increases and the fruits of the labour materialises - thus becomes enjoyable.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Before I moved into the current role I had very little Project Management Knowledge and this is why the Apprenticeship scheme was recommended to obtain the required skillset whilst on the job.
I have developed a mass of knowledge and applied this during the apprenticeship which enables me to deliver against project objectives.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well organised/structured. Not only have I had to adapt during the pandemic but also the training provider and my support team provided by my employer. The software provided by the training provider has a wealth of resource to assist with knowledge and the training provider has tailored training options for which suits an individual best.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Employer has been extremely supportive, encourages apprenticeships. I am not the typical age for an apprentice but this was not a blocker from my employer - they have been very supportive. Providing me with the required time to study and mentor on a day to day basis which builds confidence whilst delivering a project. They have also provided me with opportunities to apply knowledge/gather evidence to complete my Portfolio.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive weekly support from the training provider, regular reviews take place, regular training/bitesize sessions. When working towards sitting the exam, revision tools are available these can be reading material, online classrooms/revision workshops (in the form of fortnightly Revision Power Hours) these also provide guidance on sitting the exam and the correct format in how questions need to be answered.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It is a necessity for the qualification/training for the role I am undertaking. The qualification provides me/enables the required skillset and knowledge to perform my role to the very best of my ability. It provides me with the back ground detail of the processes and procedures required for delivery of a successful project.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are extra-curricular activities available in the work place, however given the pandemic these have been restrictive due to the nature of the guidance provided by the government. However, there have been many social online activities and the coop have everyones wellbeing at heart so there are many supportive groups which employees can become involved with. I am a member of the Aspire Group within the Co-op. As the pandemic is now coming to an end and we are making a return to the office, we can regain that social interaction.

Why?
I have been at the Coop for 32 years so that in itself shows how good a company they are. During my employment I have been provided with numerous opportunities to develop / fulfil my goals. Been fortunate to have a variety of roles during my time here, giving me a wealthy of experience. I have remained loyal to the organisation as they are an excellent employer to work for, they truly value their employees and their wellbeing. I joined at the age of 18 and hope to continue through to my retirement.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to The Co-op?
Grasp any opportunity that comes forward. Don't feel scared to step out of your comfort zone, the end result will be worth it - you will feel empowered. All support required will be provided, you will not be alone. The coop is like an extended family. The people are the back bone of the organisation. Make that change and join the Coop - my mantra - 'If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've already got - make that change'
