Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves coordinating global markets as a whole. it is a business segment within the investment bank and the COO runs monthly checks and meetings. I pull together meeting materials and make trackers for monthly checks. this includes who is voice recorded and any new joiners, where I reach out to their line managers and send to the correct business teams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme more than I could have dreamed of. I am so pleased with the apprentices in my cohort who I regularly socialise with online and in person. my team are supportive and create the best learning environment possible by challenging me and setting work where I can learn e.g. never repetitive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have excelled in Excel! I use formulas like vlookup countif and have an array of keyboard shortcuts which help speed up any work I am doing. I have learnt how to use basic things like Outlook and Skype and also how to socialize and picked up skills from my wider team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I get one study day a week. it is on a Wednesday and means I can manage my study/work/home life in an easier way. The work can sometimes stress me out but the UNiversity of Exeter mentor is extremely supportive and can put me onto resources that help my learning.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The employer as a whole is extremely supportive. I receive on a weekly basis supportive emails around well being and how to exercise good mental health. they have support networks like pride and all bar none which mean you can get involved in charity and join more communities to meet new people.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
The mentors are brilliant very supportive. There are mails sent out however other than the mentor there isn't a lot of reach out supports to check and track work. The lectures are helpful but once I emailed out for some help on an essay and received no mail back.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The finance side of the course e.g. risk module and CISI exams. I see terminology from my qualification in my job and it makes it a lot easier to remember and stay motivated. The professional development side of the UOE course however isn't very effective for me personally.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
I beloeve tat there are, in the induction we was told of netball teams and other sport things but due to Covid this has been hard for the business. UBS encourage you to join networks which plan charity work to get involved in and I look forward to this part of the job.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Such a supportive and amazing place for your first job and career. I have learnt an insane amount in such a short period of time and cannot wait to carry on learning more and going into the office to excel my experience further. I am still extremely grateful I was given the oppurtunity.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Learn about the business. Know what you want to do. Be social and friendly always - everyone at UBS is so friendly and welcoming and this will enable you to network.
Work hard, the work is challenging and so you have to stay motivated and push yourself to be the best and produce the best work.
