Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
The insight was four weeks long. The first week was an induction to KPMG and understanding their values, etc. Weekly rotations with different teams and managers followed, where tasks were given based on the audited entity for that week. The tasks involved working with data and financial statements.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was very informative, useful and motivating. KPMG as a global entity was extensively discussed during the induction. I was aligned to the Nottingham office and the local requirements were clearly communicated to me.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
Verbal and written communication skills - using technology such as Microsoft Teams and Emails.
Using Excel - very prominently used and I felt as though I had become better at working with it.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The Microsoft Team meetings were focused and I felt very much involved. I was able to easily integrate myself within the three teams I was rotating through. Everyone is really friendly and willing to help if I was unsure about something.

It's important to be yourself and ask questions wherever possible. Don't be nervous as everyone is really friendly!
When applying to KPMG, it is a good idea to have some understanding about KPMG's values (to make sure they align with your values too) and the capability you are applying for (although prior knowledge is not required). Make sure you apply early too, as the recruitment process may be lengthy - it will be worth it though!
Even if accounting is not a career you have considered going towards, the vacation programme will give you great insight and experience that may change your mind.
