Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
2/5
On a day to day basis we are working as normal and learning they sometimes tend to treat us a little less like apprentices and more like associates which sometimes can be good but sometimes they take advantage and use you as production instead of learning as you should be which is unfair as you are earning half what they are and supposed to be learning
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I like college a lot it's my favourite part of the apprenticeship what I learn there. Work is also good you work with all sorts of people and learn a lot but college is a lot better as you're training and learning there as you should be doing

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes everything I have learned is new before I had never done anything like this before I was working in retail and now on production and learning how to make furniture.
So evey skill I have learned at work is new, I can make things now that I could never make before

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
It could definitely be better again at college it is very well planned all the lessons and lecturers do well but at work not so much.
We get used too often as production and get pulled back to areas we have already done.
We could also spend less time in some areas that we learn quicker
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Sometimes they can be good, there is one person that looks after us apprentices on the shop floor and he is really helpful he will help us with anything we need.
I have had cases where I've had to get college work done and my production manager hasn't been very understanding but that has only happened once So all on all it's good
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Similar to my previous answer the person that looks after us is really good he will help us in any way he can
The only downside is when I have college work to do and a lot of it and need to always use my own time to do it when I should have the facilities to do it at work
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The course itself is quite different as it is furniture but my lecturer does a good job of using everything we do and show us how we could apply it to productions. He will also always add elements of veneering as we do that at work to every project which helps with work
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
None at work but currently due to covid they haven't had a lot happening anyway. I haven't seen anything that I wanted to join but again this could be due to covid.
If it wasn't for that I would maybe think about joining a sports things if it's something I enjoy

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?
No
Why?
Because although I enjoy the nature of the work here and once you finish the apprenticeship you get a decent pay there doesn't seem to be much progression here and there's a lot that happens that shouldn't happen. The programme at work definitely needs to be better and from what I see with ex apprentices a lot of them aren't happy here now. So even though I enjoy working here I wouldn't recommend it to someone else
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
To get as informed as you possibly can. To know that who you are when you apply and what you want out of it and work towards that and don't be afraid to be vocal because you have to be for yourself so you get the right trajnjng for your future
