Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work in marketing an promote our services to the public. We market public sector programmes like One You Leeds as well as employment programmes like Restart.
I use Facebook, LinkedIn and PPC to market the programmes and also manage 3 direct reports, one of which just started last year. I work in a team of 8 people.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme. Yolande is a wonderful tutor. The assignments that have been scenario based have given me the confidence to think that I can be the head of a department, something I didn't feel that I could attain before.
It's helped me to be a better manager and my direct reports have since said they're noticed I've implemented things from the course.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. I've learnt about different theories like the The Tannenbaum-Schmidt Leadership Continuum to discover when I should adopt a democratic style of leadership and when to be more autocratic (when people start in a new role)
I've also used the johari window to find out more about myself and how to help my team grow.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Really well organised. I always did the tasks on time on bud and it was good to have deadlines. Yolande gave good feedback on how I can improve essays for the next time.
The only thing I would improve is the maths/English part. I didn't feel I needed to do all the tests for it as I already achieved an A in English and B in maths at GCSE level.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Not really that much support. My manager didn't really get involved in the PDP part. However, I did bring forward team suggestions to improve the wellbeing of the team and some of these have been implemented.
I also did an internal management course which complemented this course well and accounted for my off the job hours.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Ample. Yolande was brilliant. I've had monthly workshops about each topic and found them really useful in learning new things like a RAID log and using agile project management.
I also learnt about finance management and budgeting which I hadn't known much about before so found it really useful too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have improved my communicaiton skills by learning about how the message has to be received and understood rather than just ommunicated.
I've learnt about different management techniques and how to give constructive feedback using different ways like the feedback sandwich. I've also learnt to use the 'I feel' statement when pinpointing on something to improve rathern than blaming the person initially.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
No, not really at work, but I am a girl guides leader and have done that for a few years now so I have employed some of the learning from this training in that too.
I'm hoping to gain exposure at board level in my current company so hopefully I can become a committee member.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Paragon Skills to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I've learnt so much from the course and feel my confidence has increased so much so that I can become head of marketing in my next job. It's given me the skills to become an inspirational leader in both work and at girl guides. I've really enjoyed doing this course.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Paragon Skills?
I would advise them to do the highest level they can. I'm really glad I did the level 5 initially even though at my level I could have just gone for the level 3 one.
I would recommend booking time in your calendar one day a week to focus on management stuff so you have time to do the assignments.
