Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Day to day varies. At the moment I am working within an audit technology team and I have the responsibility of being an SME for a tool which is used by all auditors. I am also heavily involved with wellbeing and some marketing and communications in relation to audit practices.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I honestly love my programme - however more so the work aspect than university. Sometimes university can be really stressful to do alongside a full time job - but I'm just massively grateful for the opportunity and understand that it isn't meant to be an easy experience. I can't wait until university is done with though.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt so many new skills since being at KPMG, but particularly since being within the technology team that I am currently working in. As well as this, I have also developed my existing skills - such as improving my confidence and people skills. My main skills that I have picked up are technology related and it's been good to get an exposure to an actual business.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The connections between my work and university provider aren't always the best. There's been occasions where we have found out things about changes in relation to university before our workplace were made aware. Other than that, the work and uni elements themselves are fairly well structured - just not the best together.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I really do recieve a lot of support from my employer. I haven't yet needed to, but I feel like if I was overwhelmed with uni work, then I would be able to explain this to them and they would give me extra time to get that done. I feel as though the senior people in my team really want me to achieve well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
University as a whole is more of an independent study style - therefore, I can't say that the support from them overall is absoloutely amazing. However, the lecturers always seem willing to help if I'm struggling with anything - which is really important because our classes have always been online, so sometime we can miss out on the face to face learning experience.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I wouldn't say that my degree running alongside my work role massively benefits me when performing my role. There are slight crossovers at times, but overall they do seem to be very different. Some of the university learning is outdated and wouldn't be something that I would do as part of my day job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Since covid happened, these have obviously decreased. But I still manage to get involved heavily with the mental health and wellbeing side of things and have even set up my own wellbeing initiative. I am looking forward to when we can have face to face socials again, as I feel these are really important.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It's such an inclusive environment with such a broad range of things to do. If you decide that you would like to try something new and you know which direction you would like to go in, there is usually the opportunity to try that out and get some experience in that field.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
I would say first of all just be yourself, however you need to be confident and put yourself out there too. Networking is really important for your career in the future. I would also say don't be judgey and be honest, as KPMG promote inclusivity and trust throughout the firm.
