Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
During term time, I will be at university 2 days a week and in the office 3 days a week. At university my days will consist of a mixture between lectures, labs and self study. My work days consist of daily stand ups with my team, picking up development tasks and working on technology solutions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme very much. I work alongside very clever, friendly and diverse people and I enjoy always learning something new each day. The work I do is always evolving in terms of the technology we use which is always fun and exciting applying it in an industry standard.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes. My technical skills have improved massively and will continue to do do throughout the course of my apprenticeship. I have developed my soft skills further, which include, teamwork, communication, presentation and organisational. The skills I have learnt and developed have been from both university and by working on the job.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is structured very well as during term time our week split would be that we are at university 2 days and working 3 days - I think this is a good split as it allows us to learn and work simultaneously and apply what we learn into our jobs. The overall programme is 5 years and it is split into 3 years studying, 1 year in industry and 1 more year of study.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
KPMG are very supportive in terms of allowing us to have study days for our university exams and also they will lighten work load if we have multiple deadlines coming up. We have points of contact that we can reach out too if we are struggling with workload or if we are having troubles with university.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We get lots of support from the university as we have different lecturers for each subject/module and during term time some of them can be very interactive with the students and will post as many helpful things as possible on the module pages. We also have an adviser who checks in on us every quarter.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The technical knowledge that I learn from the university helps me perform better in my role since I learn a lot of technical skills and the theory behind a lot of work that is done. From working in teams and working individually, I have been able to put into practice what has been taught into my day to day job well.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Since moving to working from home last march, there has not been any face to face events, for obvious reasons however, there has been regular virtual events between the teams I work in and the wider firm. Events have included, virtual Christmas party, bake offs, yoga sessions and team socials.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend KPMG to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a great company to work for as you meet so many people across the firm in different areas of the business. You can widen your network massively and learn so many things both technology and business based. The people at KPMG are very diverse and I enjoy working with so many different people.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Do you research beforehand about the company and why you want the job you are going for. Be passionate and excited about role you wish to have and know your strengths and weaknesses so you can build on your strengths and focus on your weaknesses to help you grow and succeed.
