Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work five days a week, with Wednesday being my study day. On Wednesday's I attend a university lecture online and then spend the rest of the day completing work set by the university.
Throughout the other four days in the week I take part in projects. My team is a project management team, therefore we aim to help improve processes in the Research department.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my programme a lot. I like the fact that we have Wednesday's off to study, so that I do not have to spend much extra time doing work on the weekends.
I am also lucky that I was put into my team because I now get exposure to many different parts of the business.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have developed my communication skills immensely. Before joining this apprenticeship, I hated public speaking and presenting. However it did not take long before I became more confident and now I actually enjoy it.
I have also learnt how to use Alteryx and Tableau, two desktop applications. I never thought I would be able to use these applications as they are quiet technical, however I received a lot of training and now I am confident in my ability.

Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well structured, given that we have a university lecture at the same time every week. Also, the lectures have 'office hours' where the students are allowed to ring them and ask for help. Also, we have an academic mentor who we meet with every few months, and they help us keep track of our progress.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I recieve lots of support from my employer. UBS offer a wide range of training courses all year round, which have helped me a lot. For example, I took part in an excel course. Also, as previously stated, I meet with my academic mentor and she helps me when I am stuck.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My degree is with the University of Exeter and they are very supportive. Whenever I email my lecturer, I near enough always get a quick reply. Also, my academic mentor is a huge help whenever I need help, whether that be with the university side of things or work itself.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I am working towards and Applied Finance Degree and this helps me perform better in my role because what we learn is very applicable to working in a bank. For example, we are currently learning about risk in the financial industry and this is essential to know, as it ensures we know our boundaries.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

I began this apprenticeship in September 2020 and am working from home, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, I have been assured that there are plenty of activities to get involved in and meet the other apprentices. Also, the department I work in set up an online escape room activity which was a good way to get to know others.
The building also has a gym and there are plenty of places to go out after work around Liverpool Street.

Why?
I would recommend UBS to a friend because it is a very inclusive and friendly environment. I have received a lot of support from my line manager, lecturers, academic mentors, colleagues, etc. Also, there are a lot of other apprentices that are enrolled. Therefore, you get to know a lot of people both around a similar age to yourself and older.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
The advice I would give someone who is applying to UBS is to be confident in your interview and take an interest in the person who is interviewing you, i.e. ask them questions about their career at the end of the interview. Also, try to take part in every opportunity you are offered as that is how you will widen your network.
