Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
On a day to day basis I review Operational Risk Issues to ensure they are written according to the policy guidelines. These Operational Risk Issues help to bridge the gap between the banks acceptable levels of risk and current risk level they are operating at. I must ensure that they have the relevant admin inputs as well as make suggestions as to how improvements can be made. I have the duty to challenge the ORI and question whether it has been made according to an acceptable standard.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy the company I work at, the structure of the apprenticeship as well as the work life balance. I enjoy learning an array of different topic content which helps me perform my job better. I enjoy the support network I have available to myself which helps me manage any stress.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I am able to analyze more effectively, use new systems which I not had exposure to before. I have a broader understanding of risk and am able to match my learning on the job with the educational content I acquire via the exam content. I have further developed my communication skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is fairly well structured. Initially there was a few miscommunications regarding what the 20% study time consisted of - We were advised that the 20% consisted of 10% on the job learning and 10% study time. There are regular catch ups with HR as well as the allocated skills coach.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer provides plenty of support. I am able to reach out to my line manager, HR or any mentors I may have if I ever encounter something that I am struggling with whether it be personal or technical. My employer is very keen on ensuring their employees are happy and working with the best environment.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider has given a lot of support in terms of resources and skills coach contact. There are frequent monthly meetings to ensure we are on track with our apprenticeship. Any tasks that are allocated via my skills coach recieves feedback regularly and if needed an extension is considered.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I am able to leverage the content that I learn via the course on a day to day basis. This is because there is a lot of technical jargon I encounter frequently which I must understand to complete my job, and having learnt about risk of a more specialized basis has helped me to understand my role deeper.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I am part of a society which promotes diversity and inclusion. I have joined a committee to help organize events for the youth in the bank. We also have a private gym and have just completed a competition within the apprentice committee encouraging becoming more active. My employers hosts several networking events pre corona, and virtually post corona.

Recommendations & Advice

Yes
Why?
Brilliant working environment with a steady support system. There is a lot more diversity compared to other companies in the industry, the societies to get involved with is great, and the team members are great characters! It is a place where you can also make friends :) We are encouraged to constantly develop ourselves.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
Keep up to date with the news, and be yourself. Authenticity is valuable and helps to differentiate you from other applicants. Understand the area you would like to apply to and know yourself in terms of competency with examples to back yourself. Finally have a bit of faith in yourself, you got this!
