Overall Rating

2.9 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

2.5/5 - Overview of Role
4/5 - Skills Development
2.4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
Working on audits for clients in technology & media sector. Performing testing on different areas that make up financial statements
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
There is a lot of work to do which affects the enjoyment of training and documenting training as well as ethics and other areas of the apprenticeship. The apprenticeship seems to be the least important part of my job

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, learning audit methodology and how to perform an audit. Skills in excel, communicating with clients.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
There is not enough time/ communication about how and when to do different parts of my programme. It is clear how long the programme lasts
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
When I ask for it, there is lots of support given. They do not provide deadlines for our apprentice or how to do different areas which is less helpful.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
It is more about what we need to do for them rather than helping us know exactly what we need to do and where
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
After my first 12 exams it is now very helpful for new areas working on. I have studied some areas for exams but never worked on them so there is a time gap between learning and potentially applying this knowledge to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a good place to work and my fellow colleagues are for the most part friendly people who make working together better.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Be realistic about how qualified you will be before you get the relevant financial remuneration, you will be supporting newer employees and helping to train them whilst on the same salary which is slightly demoralising. However, in general it is a good place to work with opportunities and nice people
