Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Since starting as an audit apprentice, I have been thrown in at the deep end, but have still really enjoyed it. I have assisted with many different types of jobs, from huge corporate firms, working on international levels, to more local, smaller firms.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I do really enjoy the programme. I have had the opportunity to switch between different areas, which has enabled me to learn about other sectors too. I am really liking my time at KPMG, but do think it will be nicer when I can work in the office, as you sometimes feel isolated working from home. However, the people you work with couldn't be more friendly and welcoming.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

My communication skills have increased significantly since starting the job. I communicate with clients reguarly, and have video calls with them alone, so you definitely do grow quickly. Being at a larger firm also helps with this, as you work with so many different people and your network is always enhancing.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think it is well organised with engagements and study time being balanced correctly. I wish I was able to get exams out the way quicker though.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support personally. I think sometimes this does depend upon the jobs you are allocated, and how well you get on with your managers and team though. I have always found with my teams that they are there whenever I need them with questions, and are always very happy to help. You are also allocated a performance manager who makes a concious effort to support your well being and general day-to-day life.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We do receive support when we ask, however I personally have found BPP to be a bit slow sometimes. Whether this is marking essays, or sending materials out, there is sometimes a bit of a wait, which is frustrating. I have however found their tuition to be very good and easy to follow.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It does give you a better understanding of testing, and you start to relate things you have learned for exams to work you are performing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many different social activities to get involved in. My office tries to plan a lot of social opportunities and events which anyone can get involved in and especially in lockdown it has meant being able to socialise. This has been great to know people outside your grade.

Why?
KPMG are very friendly and a people orientated firm. My team and other colleagues couldn't be more supportive, they want nothing but the best for you, and will help you grow your knowledge and skills. The journey as an audit apprentice is very rewarding. You will meet so many great people whilst going towards gaining a qualification.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?
Just be yourself, and the rest will follow. Come in with an open mind and be prepared to learn.
