Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My job on a day to day basis involves completing workbooks and other tasks to help towards the completion of an audit. The seniors on the job explain and walk through an example of what they require me to do before I begin the completion of the tasks. The tasks I have been assigned since the start have progressively carried more responsibility with me completing more straight forwards tasks and requiring more help at the start of the job.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying my programme at the moment. The studies partnered with the work gives me a mix of both worlds. I especially enjoy the work side of the programme allowing me to gain some experience and to build my relationships with my colleagues as well as being able to study towards my qualification.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed a variety of new skills including new ways to work with excel as well as how to use different pieces of software to complete an audit. I have also developed my communication skills, in particular how to address an email correctly and word it in a way that clearly outlines what is required.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I believe that my programme is structured very well. It is clear when we are required to attend online study sessions and when we are sitting exams. As well as this I am always aware of what is coming up and the layout is easy to follow so that I know what I am required to be getting on with at any particular time and in advance.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a high level of support from my employer. Weekly emails are sent out keeping everyone up to date about what is happening and my people's manager is always on hand to help me with an queries that I may have. I am constantly aware of my points of contact which makes it easy to raise a query and to make sure that I contact the right person for the job.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Whilst working towards my qualification we frequently receive check ins asking us how we are getting on and what we need to complete if anything is outstanding. However, I have had a few problems with the software when sitting an exam which haven't always been addressed as clearly as I would deem necessary.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I have learnt a variety of skills, key terms and abbreviations that have benefitted me during the start to my career. I believe that the content taught in the qualification so far has been relatable to the work that I have done and has allowed me to gain a better understanding of what I am completing during my work but also what is required of me.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
As we are currently working at home, extra curricular activities have been relatively difficult to attend. However, I am always receiving emails about social events such as quizzes, desert island typed games, coffee meetings etc that seem easily accessible. I am looking forward to start coming into the office and I will definitely be looking to join some of the sports teams that are made available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend BDO to a friend because all the people I have been in contact with have been so welcoming and understanding of the situation that we are in being new joiners at home. BDO are a well structured organisation that always keep in contact with their employers to check in on them and fill them in on any relevant information. I have made some good connections with my colleagues online and look forward to continuing these relationships in person.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
One key bit of advice I would give when applying to BDO would be to be yourself and make sure that you put your strongest foot forward. BDO aren't just looking for how clever or hard you are willing to work but they are also interested in how you would fit into the office and how you can work well in a team.
