Assisting the dentist, assisting on reception, office work, admin work, helping other nurses cross infection, staff training, first aid training, health and safety management, working with patients, giving advice, answering phones , answering emails, working as a team, completing coursework, sitting exams, decontamination protocols, waste segregation, ordering stock, deep cleaning, nursing
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Interesting, very engaging with assessor, lots of helpful resources, exams were well done, units were a good amount of work, helpful assessors, lots of questions, lots of work both practical and written, knowledge based and practical work, first aid training, medical emergencies, all very useful and transferable into practice setting

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

All new skills - nursing, learning about all units, learning about cross infection, learning how treatments are done, learning how to work on reception, how to book and cancel appointments, how to take payments, how to respond to emails, prices, GDC standards, how to use all equipment in decon room

How well organised/structured is your programme?

Very well organised, units are an easy to follow size, don’t feel too overwhelmed, regular sessions with tutor, 4 multiple choice exams and 2 exams at the end including practical observations, very well planned out to help you reach your end goal after spending time on all areas of the curriculum
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Employer gave full support of the apprenticeship, allowed us time out to focus on coursework and complete 20% off the job training. Allowed us time for exams and assessments and was happy to let assessor come in for any meetings or observations. Fully supported use into qualifying. Very helpful team
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Fully supported. Can contact at any time with questions or queries and will receive help. Sessions are regular to help with all units and planned around exams and assessments. Assessor also liaised with workplace to ensure needs were being met on both parts and that everything was working as it should
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Qualification gave me all knowledge required that I could use against my practical experience in surgery. Any questions I had I could go through with my assessor from working in surgery. All knowledge worked to support me in my practical training and experience and into completing my final exams well

Very helpful tutors, easy to contact, come in and see us in practice, full support is given. All have their own practical experience which helps them understand the role properly and give the best help and advice. Very friendly and fully supportive to help you to qualify with no problems, work around us
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aspiration Training?
Work hard, ask all of the questions that you need to. Don’t be shy to email and ask questions they’re there to help you and to help you qualify. The more you ask the more you understand and will benefit in the surgery. Work hard at home aswell and put the work in
