Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work on strategic projects internally whilst completing a range of on and off the job learning / training.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I do enjoy my programme a lot. It is great being a part of a global organisation and having the balance of work and academics, although it is a very high pressure environment with lots of aggressive deadlines and expectations.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a range of new skills whilst building on my existing skillset that I joined with. I have improved / learnt hard skills on platforms like excel, alteryx and tableau whilst developing in terms of communication, time management and detail.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is extremely well structured. There is clear and dedicated study time combined with clear short and long term targets and objectives in my day job at UBS. There is also consistent support available to me for both my learning and work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
My manager has been consistently supportive since I joined in terms of both my workplace development and my mental wellbeing. We have regular check ins and catch ups to keep on top of both.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
We have regular webinars for our studies, however it can be quite hard working solely from these sessions and textbooks so there is quite a lot of emphasis placed upon you as an apprentice to teach yourself and correct problematic areas.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My degree in applied finance helps me better understand the eco-system that both myself and the broader firm operate in, consequently helping me to develop and improve my value-add in the workplace.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
At the moment this is limited due to covid reasons however there is a good range of social interaction across our cohort regardless, despite current limitations. In usual times I believe that there are more social events and clubs available.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend UBS to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend UBS as it is a good firm to work for and provide a good opportunity to develop in both an academic and corporate environment simultaneously.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
I would recommend someone to do their research on the firm, our ethos and what we do. For someone who is joining, I would recommend them to be disciplined in their study time and ensure they keep ahead of deadlines
