Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

On a day to day basis, I work on clients which are assigned to us. We work in a team to provide assurance (regulartory & ESG) to clients through the data they send us. We then perform testing procedures on their data to ensure everything is accurate, whilst also keeping the clients in the loop through meetings.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I throughly do enjoy the programme, however sometimes it does get a little overwhelming when you have a lot of work to do whilst also trying to keep up with the studying/education sides of things. It is difficult to start off with as you are thrown into the deep end and it is hard to interpret what is expected off of you.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes definately, I have developed my speaking, listening and presenting skills whilst also becoming better at using different softwares and technology. This is due to the fact that you will always have some sort of meeting whether it is with clients or just your internal team, so something you have to always put into practice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is organised, however I do feel as though it could be better structured as sometimes we (apprentices) do find ourselves chasing up things we should not have to e.g. delayed study materials and some exam questions they have given us to revise sometimes have mistakes within them.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

A significant amount of support is provided to us from our employer, however I would not say a lot of support in terms of the education sides of things is provided, e.g how we are feeling about our exams etc and what things we can do to complete our 20% off the training.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

A lot of support is provided from our training providers, as they ensure we are working towards a pass mark and frequently send out emails, whilst also carrying out review calls throughout the year to check up on you and answer and questions we have. It definately helps to know we can always email them.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It does help sometimes, as I do use some things I have learn't through my studies in my work however the department I work in, does not use need or put into practice what I have currently learnt so sometimes it does feel like two different areas, but it is very helpful.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Due to Covid-19, I have not been able to explore the wider societies etc, however we have been given oppurtunities to joing religous societies and even have a virtual work out session which is very good for well-being. An apprentice group has also been set up which involves getting to know each other informally which is super good.

Why?

I would reccomend KPMG to a friend as I have felt that this firm has been very welcoming and understanding, which was not expected as such a big firm. They have so many benefits and it is great to get to experience the corporate business area, which you can progress and develop yor career in.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to KPMG?

In the Application process, make sure you have done your research on the firm and give examples/refer back to KPMG. In the Interview, honestly just be yourself, it is not as scary as you think!! it goes by extremely quick, It is like chatting to a friend. You assessment is very much easy and common sense, just make sure you pick out the most appropriate answer and explain why.
