Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work as a salon assistant. I help to keep the salon clean and aid stylists in their day to day jobs. That can be from separating foils, rinsing colours, shampooing, taking colours through or toners. I also help to sanitise every station after a client has left to maintain the cleanliness in the salon
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really love my programme, it is something i have always been interested in since i was little. it is completely different to a typical sixth form course which i really struggled to enjoy so changing and making the jump to working in the hair industry was the best possible idea i have come up with. I love it!
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of skills since starting at my salon. I had no prior background in the hair industry so everything was new for me to learn. I learnt how to mix colours, rinse and shampoo correctly, take colours through, blow-dry properly and the anatomy of the hair. I also learnt more people skills and how to work and run a reception
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is so well organised i love it. I really like the fact that everything is online in one place, and i can find it all easily instead of hunting through heaps of paper to find any work i have done previously. I am a visual learner so the online resources are fab!
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Absolutely loads of support. I have amazing employers who are so helpful and always check in to make sure i am not struggling with any work and i am doing okay. They really push me to do better and want me to excell so are always asking me to try new things but stay positive even if i do not get it first time.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I recieve a bunch of support from my tutor, she is amazing. She is so helpful and is always about to help me and more the happy to let me message her if i am stuck on any work she has set. She goes through the work i have done for the month and gives me great feedback to improve for next time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I think my qualification has really been boosted through the help of my tutor. As i work in a salon already i am learning at a pace but my work seems to keep up to date with the training i do in salon. She keeps regular communications with my employer to make sure i am doing okay in and out of the salon
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes! We have zoom meetings with courses found by my employers. We do a range of things and over lockdown they kept us training and moving forward even though we were stuck at home. I learnt so much! We do a variety of things from colour courses to one of cutting courses. The lot!

Why?
ParagonSkills has a lovely group of tutors. They are so helpful and genuinely are interested in your progression and want you to do as well as possible. They are really attentive and get to know you personally as well as on a professional level which i think is lovely when you find yourself struggling as they understand you better.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Paragon Skills?
Be yourself! I think thats the best thing. They are so welcoming and are not judgmental in the slightest. My tutor adapts to me and we get on so well she is like a guardian angel with my work always there to make sure i am bettering myself and improving. and telling me to get myself together when i find myself slipping. Couldn't recommend applying to them enough!
