Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves providing mechanical hardware support to projects across the business and ensuring that the day-to-day running of the prototype manufacturing facility continues smoothly.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I definitely enjoy the job and the experiences that come with it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a lot of new manufacturing techniques and got further into the CAD/CAM/CNC workflow. I have also learnt some small batch production assembly skills for complex electromechanical products. I study a mechanical engineering degree part time to improve my academic knowledge.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is running for the first time, so there are inevitable hiccups. Thankfully I have full support from the business and the university to sort these out.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer. There a regular one-to-one meetings with my line manager and the escalation routes are clearly signposted if further support is required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive a reasonable amount of support from the university. The contact hours are limited due to the part time nature of the course however the lecturers respond quickly to queries. The university do need to got better at formal progress reviews given that a proper one hasn't happened yet at the middle of the third term. Personal tutors also need some more motivation as one video call so far is not enough to have a lasting impact.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification modules have already proved very useful in understanding both the background to my work and also how to improve quality and timescales.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Excellent opportunities to get involved with, though limited currently due to pandemic restrictions.
