Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am in the second year of my apprenticeship, i am based at the Hams Hall plant for 4 days of the week and i attend college for the 1 day, i go on various placements around the machining lines and work with the maintenance teams shadowing and attending breakdowns and proactive work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am thoroughly enjoying my apprenticeship with BMW as it allows me to gain a wide range of skills both on the tools and off the tools as well as helping increase my educational skills and achievements. i enjoy working hands on so i believe this is a great opportunity for me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
i believe i have learnt a wide range of skills so far in my apprenticeship, ranging from hands on skills to communication and people skills. this has allowed me to become more confident in myself and the work that i do encouraging me to put forward my ideas to the team.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
i believe that the program as a whole is managed relatively okay, whilst at plant the managers are aware of the work you do and help you to get the work you need, likewise with the shift leaders, i think the structure with the placements works well and allows you to learn all the lines.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The employer offers great support to the apprentices and are only a phone call or an email away. they can help you achieve what you want to achieve as well as guiding you through the course setting challenges along the way. there are regular meetings to check on our progress.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
the college have been very helpful and supportive too, especially when we had to do online classes through the lockdowns, they offered one on one support to those that needed it and arranged regular meetings to help teach us and allow us to complete the course in time despite the situation.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
i feel that the qualifications gained at college allow us to understand the jobs at work better and approach them differently meaning we can contribute ideas. They have also improved our knowledge on the systems used and allowed us to be more hands on with the systems used at plant.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
it has been challenging with the lockdowns to be able to continue with the activities and for them to go ahead, the plant do a lot for charity. this consists of charity runs and also the mountain challenge. the people at the plant are generous and always willing to contribute to these causes.
