Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My day to day work involves maintaining and looking after machinery used in the manufacturing of engines for BMW and MINI cars. Every apprentice is put on 3 month long placements in different parts of the business, including different production lines, and areas that assist the lines such as tooling.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my day to day work and look forward to going to different areas of the business to learn more. Any concerns I have are dealt with quickly as there are always people willing to help. I look forward to working full time with the rest of the maintenance staff.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I've learnt a lot since joining BMW group, this includes how to use machinery, different tools and important knowledge regarding how the production lines work. Using this information, I can assist other maintenance technicians and process support workers in keeping the line running, and producing engines for our customers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Our programme works very well. In the first year of the apprenticeship, you spend all your time at college learning the necessary basic skills needed for engineering, such as hand-fitting, lathes, mills and maintenance, as well as the theory required. Once your first year is complete, you will start at the plant where you will be placed into a department on a 3 month long placement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive support from my employer in whatever I need. All I need to do is ask and they will help as best they can.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The college will help in any way they can to help you when training with them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I think the basic skills we learn at college did help to an extent however a lot of it we don't actually use in day to day work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Not anymore as far as I'm aware.
