Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
Yes, after the first 6 months in which I was still working on tasks related to my onboarding and still getting help from my buddy and manager at every step, I've been chosen to coordinate the PRISM monthly production release in a 24-developer team.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Since my placement started and ended fully online unfortunately, I was a lot of help at the beginning since I was new to investment banking and also coding in teams with so many employees.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
My whole team is really open and there are constant tasks which implicate developers from Shanghai and from India, and also working with the business side from London and Japan. So, I would say that the company culture is wide open. Also there was a hackathon organised in which the participants were student form secondary schools in the UK from difficult backgrounds; this experience made me understand that Nomura pays attention to social challenges as well.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
As I’ve started my Industrial Placement at Nomura fully online, I found out that I would like to work in a more hybrid way, in which I can alternate working from the office, with working from home. This might be an aspect which is of course debatable regarding the pandemic; however, I would prefer to be able to work from the office as well. Also, I think one more important aspect would be to have a great team in which you can feel comfortable to work on great projects and in which you can communicate freely.
