Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My typical work day would generally start at 9am. However, this can be flexible dependent on your working requirements. As a multi-national business, E&Y understand that a 9am start is not feasible for a lot of people and therefore you see people often turning up at 10/10.30am and working till 6pm rather than 5pm. We are entitled to a lunch hour at E&Y and are heavily encouraged to take it in order to allow our brains to refresh and as such makes us more productive in the afternoon. My projects typically take me 2/3 weeks to get through them from beginning to end. Dependent on the amount of work and the deadlines, I do find myself working later some days and although this sometimes does restrict my free time, it is highly rewarding in terms of knowledge gained.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

As you can see above I highly value my job at EY. The 3 years I have been here I have picked up invaluable skills and gone through 14 of my 15 exams. I think the skills learned are highly sought after in professional services and I love developing them

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learned a lot of skills, professional skills in terms of being in a professional environment, team building working as part of a team, personal in terms of social skills, time management as I have to be timely and present. All in all EY has been fantastic for developing skills
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I think the structure could do with some work as the first 9 months had no exams but the following 3 years had an exam every 3 months. I would have liked to have sat exams slightly earlier to get through the exams earlier. All in all though I have enjoyed it.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer gives so much support! We have counselors who constantly check up on us, we have buddies when we first join to help us settle in, lots of people who have also gone through the same thing we have to also provide in-valuable support to myself. I feel very supported at EY
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

We get a good amount of support. EY book us out for college and the team we work with are highly understanding when it comes to exams. They allow us to log off on time rather than putting pressure on us to get the work done which is very appreciated
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification that I work towards is highly beneficial on the job. I learn various tax skills on training and then I can apply this in the work I do on the day to day basis. I learn more and more every day on the job but the training definitely helps!
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is indeed. We have a 5 a side football team which means we can get involved and touch base with colleagues on a more personal level. We also have weekly quizzes, drink socials, rounders and christmas parties. All in all there is lots of scope to get involved with the team on a more personal level

Why?
EY is a person centred firm that puts a lot of emphasis on its employees positive mental health. They have lots of support bubbles to help where need be and lots of scope to develop, learn, travel if you want, and the team is so understanding if you needed extra time to learn!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Make sure you know what you're getting yourself into. It's a lot of work but if you're committed and want to learn and go far with your career EY is a fantastic choice. Research the career line you want to go into before hand too as otherwise you could be stuck in a service line you dont want to be in.
