My role is that of a business analyst. I am responsible for the day-to-day development of a piece of a tool. This includes gathering requirements from business stakeholders, creation of user stories & running scrum ceremonies. There is also a support element included for clients and other users of the tool through bug and issue resolution.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have enjoyed being a part of a team who values team culture highly. This allows for a good work/life balance, lots of support internally for any work or personal issues and generally fostering a positive environment for growth. I have also enjoyed the content which I have learnt and found it applicable to my work.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many skills critical for professional working. Presentation and leadership are the two skills which I feel as though I have improved most greatly. This has been enabled through a combination of personal commitment and mentorship. The team is also not highly hierarchical and hence less senior members are often given the opportunity to lead. I have also developed a broad range of product development skills having experienced the full product development lifecycle.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

For the most part the programme is well organised. I have had the opportunity to experience different roles, have a study day which is respected by all team members and have regular catch up with an internal counsellor to discuss progress. Organisation from the side of the course provider could be improved however with better communication on course decisions progress updates.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I am given a lot of support from my employer with regular catch ups with my direct manager, counsellor and a well established HR department (although I have not needed to use). My team in particular are open in discussion on physical and mental health and provide excellent support in that respect.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support received form my training provider is fairly limited. The course content is well managed but the exposure to additional academic workshops provided could be improved. The quarterly catch ups with the skills coach/ tutor are not very helpful and could instead be more tailored towards progress and other support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

It helps exclusively through relevant theory which can be applied to the job. This however is often not the case since the theory differs from how it is used in practice. There is also the opportunity to present work on the workshops however I haven't found this particularly beneficial to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are many opportunities for clubs , sports teams and other social activities with my team as well as the workspace we are in and in the wider company. These include things such as: running club, netball club, art club, foodie network. I personally have not been involved with any of these besides football.
Recommendations & Advice
Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The teamwide and firmwide culture is inspiring and I believe the company sets a good example to other large corporations. I also believe the support within the company is good and there are many good opportunities for progression either through promotion or secondments to other teams and/ or UK businesses.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Do some research into EY as a business and think about where the strategy of the business and your own motivations share common ground. This will help in being passionate about the role. It will also help in explaining within an interview or virtual assessment why you think you would be a good fit within the business.
