Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

-analyse market developments and keep up with news
-develop useful tools/dashboards in Excel
-analyse data kin Python
-chat with people to learn about different products, markets, and their jobs

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Not much, unfortunately - most of the projects given to interns are not used by the desks. I tried to take on more responsibility myself by writing market comments, but my initiatives were largely ignored. Banking internships work more like an extended interview rather than a real job with responsibilities.

A good deal from HR and support staff, between little and very little from the desks.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

A bit stressed and people didn't have much time, but that's the nature of the industry. Overall, people were responsive and helpful (particularly at the more senior level - ED and above). I liked the overall competitive nature of the teams and their desire to perform well among other banks and to offer great client service. I can attest that the teams are truly striving to do great work and serve their clients well.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

It was enjoyable - I improved my technical skills, learnt a bit more about the industry, chatted to some practitioners, and got paid to do so. Overall, a good experience.
