Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves supporting project managers through various activities such as setting up meetings, drafting emails and checking collateral on PowerPoint slideshows and Excel spreadsheets. As a data analyst, I'm also required to observe trends and draw conclusions. There is also additional training for PowerBI and Alteryx for our self-development.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Overall, the course is enjoyable. You are constantly learning something new and doing different tasks which does not make it repetitive in any way. You also have the chance to network and connect with like-minded people throughout the business and have endless opportunities to explore different areas during your time at the company.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, especially on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets requiring different formulas and the use of pivot tables. We are encouraged to take our self-development seriously with EY providing their own platform for web-based learning as well as access to Udemy for business for additional courses and training to complete in our spare time.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well-organised and you are assigned a counsellor from the start where you have regular meetings to discuss your progress and able to express any concerns. Colleagues are very understanding of your time allocation to work and study. You are also on a rotation at work and are involved in different projects throughout the year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

You are assigned a counsellor and have regular catch-ups with them on a monthly basis to support you throughout your time in the company. There are also different managers in the team and the organisers of the apprenticeship who are available for support and listen to any concerns or queries you may have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The module organisers and programme leaders are always available via email should you have any questions regarding the course content. You are also assigned a skills coach at the start who you have regular catch-ups with to check your progression. The training provider also a safeguarding team for your health and wellbeing.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification and the skills learnt throughout the course is applicable and useful for my everyday role. You can apply your knowledge from the modules into the real working world and you are also able to relate with colleagues who may have previously studied a similar course. The skills learnt from the qualification helps you to perform better as you have more insight.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are plenty of networks and groups to join depending on your interests. Before COVID-19, there were regular meetups and social gatherings with teams that have now moved to virtual meetings. It is easy to get involved and network with different people throughout the company. Virtual coffee chats are also encouraged within your team.

I would recommend this company since it gives you the invaluable opportunity to learn and develop your skillset. The course is well-organised and the company is supportive throughout your journey and encourages you to learn new things. There are also many opportunities to network with different people in the business and expand your knowledge.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
When applying, make sure to research the company in-depth and have a clear understanding of what you want to gain from working with them. Throughout the application process and interviews, always be honest and consider asking them questions on what they as a firm can offer you. It is also useful to understand what their company culture is like before applying beforehand by networking with employees on LinkedIn or attending insight days.
