Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I work on both internal and external audit projects, auditing the technology risks of clients in relation to their financial audits. On a day to day this involves leading meetings, gathering evidences and assessing the risks & controls in place. Also as a senior consultant coaching junior staff and providing feedback on their performance
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my programme, it has given me the opportunity to be challenged and to strive to be better. It also has a good balance between work and social life. The qualification I am doing is recognised worldwide and will be a great achievement once finished - hopefully in the near future

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt lots of new skills. The main skills learnt are organisation, productivity and efficiency in decisions and self-management. I also have excelled in speaking to clients in a clear, coherent and professional manner. I have developed my public speaking skills and also my social skills from the dynamic work environment

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is very well organised and also has a great promotion structure. In that I mean I know exactly what role I am working to and also the other routes that are available to me, e.g. into cybersecurity or data analytics. It has helped me achieve my promotion this year.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I received a lot of support from my employer and there is a great focus on family and inclusivity. Whether it has been sickness. family or exam pressure there has always been a respect and care given to me. I think it has allowed me at times to get through tough situations in my personal and working life
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We received thorough training and college time for the exams as part of the qualification. There is an expectation to pass each exam first time which can be tough and harsh especially when completing exams during a busy period. However this is the standard for the industry so isnt abnormal
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The foundation level training and college for my qualification was useful and gave good insight into the larger picturte of how the department works. The further professional level qualification I chose to complete, as it was not a requirement. This is not directly as associated but gives great insight and will only open doors in the future
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I am the lead in the birmingham consulting department social committee. This has been a great opportunity and really is important to the team. It has given me the opportunity to lead a non-job related team and we have also acted to complete CSR days for the firm and raised money to charitites

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It has really given me a boost and acceleration to the role and responsibility I wanted in a job. The qualification I am doing as a school leaver is the equivalent of doing a masters at university. It also has allowed me to avoid university entirely. It is my top pick for an apprenticeship provider
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Keep and open mind, and remember when attending interviews it is as much yourself trying to find out if the company is a fit for you as they are assessing you for the job. EY has a long recruitment process so be ready to be in it for the long run and also bring enthusiasm at each stage
