Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Work place days - Starting early with the other engineering technicians, shadowing there work with their guidance and help. trying lots of different things and gaining valuable experience. Sometimes getting your own jobs assigned to you and gaining confidence doing them independently. Throughout you get to meet lots of people around the airport
College days - Going into college with other apprentices and learning all the engineering basics
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy my programme, I work with a great team with a very helpful line manager, the other apprentices are also great. The work is varied and enjoyable because of my heavy interest. The company has a good culture which makes me proud to be a part of it.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have leant so many new skills due to the nature of the job being vary varied as well as experiencing the different departments. Also developing my existing skills by practice and helpful tips from experienced technicians. Additionally earing qualifications that will allow me to be employed in any engineering career.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
the programme is very well organised, first year focuses all on the basics of engineering studding at East surrey collage, going in 5 days a week leaning things like welding, electrical and mechanical principles, mathematics. Then the next 3 years you will be in the workplace spending time on each department and going to college 1 day a week to continue the theory side of the work and to get all your qualifications.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My line manager gives all the apprentices lots of support, always helping out and trying to give us the best from our apprenticeship. whenever I have any questions or would like to know something my manager always helps out and is kind, honest and fair. I've never had any problems with the support whatsoever.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider is East surrey college, the lectures always try to give you the best support that they can, it can sometimes be difficult when you have a high work load in the first year with many different lectures but Gatwick support you the best they can making visits and helping out with any problems you have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Because my role has so many different and varied departments its important to get all the basics down, from mechanical and electrical learning and also practical skills. the qualification manages to cover almost all of it. The only improvement would be to make it more specific to the company work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Every year all the apprentices get to meet up for a week away on an activity program called outward bound, this lets all the apprentices get together and bond, due to many apprentices being on different departments, this is the perfect way to socialise with the people going though the same thing as you.
