Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I attend career fairs and events across the UK to promote aviation as a career to young people and to promote BA. I also help out with many events including fundraising for the flying start charity, work experience interviews and assessments and much more. This opportunity has opened up so many unique experiences to help me better my understanding of aviation, management, representing a global company and the application process both from both sides.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy all the volunteer work, I love aviation and this gives me a great opportunity to improve my skills, knowledge and I have had fantastic self-development over the years. I really enjoy attending careers fairs where I feel proud in representing BA and being able to provide advice to people, especially in piot training.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt so much through my BA role, from talking to thousands of people in one day and providing useful advice on how to become a commercial pilot with BA and all other roles. I have also been able to get a really good understanding of how a global company operates and how to both conduct interviews and assessment , giving me the best understanding of recruitment processes.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Its pretty well organised , all the event details are sent to us and then we get to pick which events we would like to attend and are available for . Then all the information is sent out via emails, which BA staff member is our point of contact and where all the equipment will be to setup the stand. Mel is absolutely fantastic in running the operation and it runs like clockwork. SOmetimes I have done events by myself which can be very daunting and a little confusing as to what to setup, so perhaps just trying to ensure a BA staff member is always there would be a good imrpvment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive plenty of support, whether that's for CV applications or writing a review for my linkedin account , workshops to improve my cv and assessment skills and tips/advice for interview applications. The team wants to help you in whatever you want to achieve , as a student ambassador you are part of a team and community.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have received interview help , i have been able to use the team as references for job applications and I am always able to ask for help or ask any questions in a ny job I'm applying for. I have also had plenty of chance to network with heads of recruitment for pilot jobs at BA , the career I want to get into.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I have been a lot more confident in public speaking and speaking to the public, I have learned a lot about the application process in a large company and use this knowledge to aid me in my future job applications. All the fundraising and volunteering activities I take part in really looks impressive on my CV.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
We have whats app groups to keep connected with the rest of the ambassador team , where we take part in online fundraising, fitness challenges and much more. When there wasn't covid we were invited to Christmas parties and loads of events when the team can really bond and get to know each other , which is great !

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The way BA operate is so professional and supportive , I would highly recommend this to anyone interested in aviation as you can learn so much and improve your CV while self-developing your skills. It is a fantastic position that enables you to really push outside your comfort zone and represent a global company. Its is an honour.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
First, you will need to apply for BA work experience, so having a passion for aviation and wanting to work in the industry is a must. Once you have that the sky is the limit and BA will be there to help you every step of the way. Just try and get involved in as much as you can, the more you put in the more you get out. You will receive all the training you need so don't worry if its a bit daunting at first.
