Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
The job role can depend on the environment your working in, this can change for working in a hangar or on the line. Carry out routine servicing and maintenance repairs
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy working in aviation, unfortunately the work at British airways can sometimes be repetitive due to the heavy maintenance being out sourced to the Glasgow and Cardiff stations where we were never given the opportunity to visit.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Since joining British airways I have learnt new skills but at the same time these opportunities to were limited.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
During the start of our apprenticeship programme it was poorly organised and there was no clear structure to work or learning. This got better towards the end of the apprenticeship but obviously disturbed due to COVID reasons
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
During the start of the apprenticeship, we rarely had any communication or support with our apprenticeship manager. Most support comes from area managers or shift managers etc. Since having a new apprenticeship manager, things have improved.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Get full support and backing from our training provider, had regular welfare calls with them throughout furlough. Get emails and messages from them to support us and ensure we’re meeting our targets.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Think the structure of the programme could be better than it is, there is a lot of writing and referencing required.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
Not that I’m aware

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Think about it before doing so, if aviation isn’t something that interests you then I wouldn’t apply. Overall it’s not a bad apprenticeship and there are people here willing to teach you and show you new things if you show interest.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Research all aircraft maintenance companies before doing so and choose which best caters to your needs
