Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Informing and inviting young people about different roles and opportunities available to them in the aviation industry. Some of this includes attending workshops or career fairs discussing work experiences or apprenticeships that BA may offer, or even other jobs and careers in the industry such as engineering, cabin crew or becoming a commercial pilot.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy doing this as it is a very rare opportunity to volunteer for a well-recognised brand and aviation is something I am very passionate about and is something I aspire to work in in the future.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt and developed my public speaking, talking in front of a small crowd and keeping my audience engaged by moving around and using hand gestures. I also learnt about some of the roles in aviation and what their day to day job is like.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
It is well organised with different events coming up appearing in a form that is sent to our emails on a monthly basis and we can select any event we wish to turn up to and help out. it is very flexible and can easily adapt to our own schedules.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Our employers (team leaders) support us in events and send us emails about ongoing events and other programmes that support us ambassadors solely, e.g. a mentorship programme that started last year. Overall, they have been very supportive and I have nothing bad to say regarding their support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a lot of support, be it via email or through MS Teams or Zoom calls. Other ambassadors also participate in these events (such as employability workshops) where we share and consult ideas with our training provider.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
We often get a lot of feedback comments from our training provider informing us on how well we performed and if there is room for improvement to work on for next time. We also set ourselves goals to try and reach, either individually or as a team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, just recently (from the time of writing this) we participated in a Red Nose Day challenge to collectively run cycle or walk 406 miles, the distance from Heathrow to Glasgow Airport. Many of us set ourselves very ambitious goals to try and reach this distance in only 3 days.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The British Airways ambassadorship programme is a very rare and unique opportunity for young people to get an insight into working in aviation and gain relevant skills which is why I would recommend young people to apply to one of BA's work experience or apprenticeship programmes.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
To make yourself stand out, showcase and explain why you are interested to work in aviation and make sure to research about the airline as it is common for interviewers to ask this question. It is also good to talk about your hobbies and other interests.
