Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
After completing my 1-week work experience with BA, I got the opportunity to become a student ambassador and was given an excellent three-day training. As a current student ambassador for BA, I represent the company at different events and have the opportunity to share my experience with other students in order to positively promote the work experience programme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
The opportunity to share my experience with other students is what is enjoy the most. This programme directed me to pursue a career in the aviation industry and I believe it can direct other students to follow their career. Moreover, I have had the opportunity to meet many positive people around the company and got to know more about how they got into BA, their job roles and advice for me as a student who wants to work in aviation.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
In this programme I have strengthened my confidence in delivering presentations, public speaking, and developed essential skills that led me to proceed to apply for an Aviation Management degree at university. The work experience introduced me to what it is like to work in a busy airport environment by focusing on how to deliver excellent customer service in different situations. As a student ambassador I have had many opportunities to develop my skills. I have attended different workshops on how to write the perfect CV, be more confident in public speaking, interviewed other students and many more.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
In my opinion, British Airway has a really well-established student ambassador programme. I get a lot of support from the team and support for my study. The three-day training programme was the best training programme I have ever attended, which gave me a good insight into the company, the ability to share my experiences and hear from others as well as an overall understanding of what my role is within the company. Finally, the system is designed very good and easily understandable (for choosing when and which event to attend).
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I have always had a positive experience in terms of support from the team. When I firstly joined in 2017, till now, I have never had a negative experience from my mentors. Whenever needed I always got the support, resources available, guidance and always a positive attitude toward supporting me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
This programme led me to choose my career and pursue an interest in aviation. I have always had the support toward my qualifications. Currently being a 2nd year university student, I am moving toward writing my dissertation for next year – which I chose to write and research on BA. I believe that I will get all the support available for my dissertation from my mentor.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Personally, I feel that I know more about my course and modules from completing the work experience programmes as well as the student ambassador programme, as I get real life experience and have had the chance to put theory into practice. This programme has helped me to choose my dream career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many events, social activities, sports teams, and even professional networking events offered in my programme. As a student ambassador I get the chance to work for charities and raise money, as well as attend various events, such as award shows, university talks, as well as trips organised by the BA.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend British Airways to a friend?
Yes
Why?
British Airways has always been my top airline of choice in terms of service offered, their customer service, the workforce, comfort and work experience programme and mainly because it is a company that has helped me to develop a path to build my career within the aviation and airline industry.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
My advice to college students and university students would be to apply for a role within the company, as it gives many opportunities to develop personal and essential skills, knowledge of the industry, excellent career opportunities, clear vision of the next step and lastly it is fun to work here.
