Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As an apprentice I am gaining experience working on aircraft along side qualified engineers. It includes general maintenance for all aspects of the aircraft including engines, cabin and cargo.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my time at work and am looking forward to making a career out of it. It is challenging but rewarding and am motivated to come in each day.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My practical and theory based knowledge for the industry and engineering as a whole has improved, along with my confidence for decision making.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The apprenticeship is organised well to give me experience in all areas to help me become an aircraft engineer. Some aspects could be improved but overall it is setup in a successful way.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
At times it can be hard for I get the support from my managers as there are a lot of apprentices for few managers. But from BA and the engineers/ staff separate to my programme they are very supportive and help where they can.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
For the first year of my programme where I am based at the training providers site, the support is good, but on the second year when you move to the employers site it decreases but is still available if needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
They teach the theory needed to become an aircraft engineer and it has helped a lot when going to my employers base to carry out practical work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
British airways are involved in a lot of fundraisers for comic relief, but at the moment with all covid related issues there hasn’t been a lot to offer.
