Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Preparation of corporation tax computations for client companies. Involves using specialist software based on company accounts, and maintaining contact with client to acquire further information on any details needed for this task. Also, assistance with tax matters as part of EY audits - where specialist tax knowledge is required for this.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the programme interesting, as it is an apprenticeship there is a good variety between practical work, internal tax training, and college learning/examinations towards qualifications with ICAEW. Tasks as part of my practical working are often varied and most weeks I will come across a new process involved with my work.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Learned many new skills - I have improved my formal communication both with colleagues and clients. All parts of my job have been new to me and so I have learnt how to use tax specific software and general skills of tax computation preparation. Also improved on my time management throughout the apprenticeship so far.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Generally very well organised, we receive regular updates on our expectations and are assigned an apprenticeship coach who is there to help us keep up to date with any requirements from ourselves. Possibly not quite enough communication takes place with regards to external qualifications, and more specifically the admin points needed in relation to this.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Receive plenty of support - assigned a manager and second year 'buddy' who I can go to with questions. These are always very helpful with practical working matters and if they can't answer queries themselves, can always find someone to help. The buddy in particular is helpful for all admin related points for the apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Plenty of support available - can contact a tutor through their website for help with any issues that I'm having. They provide plenty of revision and working materials for these and the teaching courses are well structured and presented. Other than these I have yet to use any other methods for receiving support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I have only yet taken one exam through the training provider, however this has been directly relevant to my role and, while it does not teach the exact processes involved in the job - it provides a good background to understand the data that we use in the role to help with our preparation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

At the moment, I have not been involved in these due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. However, these are available and well advertised to new joiners. There are many opportunities within the role to get involved with activities within the company (either with the examples listed in the question or other things such as becoming more involved with industry technology)

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The apprenticeship scheme is interesting and provides a good basis for entering the working world. EY has a good attitude to working - allowing flexible working both around working hours and working from home. As stated in a previous question - there is plenty of support available for any part of the apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Be sure to prepare for the application process - EY runs 'experience days' as part of the application process which can seem daunting if you haven't been at one of these before. In interview, its helpful to just remember that the interviewer is just another person/worker, and so to relax and just be friendly
