Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role day-to-day involves managing a number of banks and insurance companies to ensure that me and my team prepare their corporation tax computations for each year. I also get involved in the corporation tax audits of some banks and insurance companies that are a part of my client portfolio
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I wouldn't say the programme is necessarily enjoyable, after all it is work! but i have felt thoroughly supported throughout the programme and i have certainly developed skills which i would not have done if i was not on the programme. The most 'enjoyable' part of the programme is definitely the people i work with

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt multiple new soft skills including communication (whether via a call, in person or over email) and also new technical skills through my studies and day to day work. These technical skills help me be able to perform my job to a good standard. My social skills have developed also.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
My programme is very structured as it includes study leave days for when i need to go and study my professional qualification. However, these study days are very scarce and usually mean i have to use a huge chunk of my annual leave in order to sufficiently prepare for the exams.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is very helpful, whether it be a personal issue or technical issue. If i have a problem i know exactly who to report that problem to and know it will be dealt with efficiently and confidentially. This is a strong point of EY which makes me feel safe
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider, Kaplan, are very helpful. They give you a dedicated tutor to contact if you have any questions around your studies, and they also provide a 24 / 7 tutor service on their website which you can ask any questions to, this is very helpful service which i have used many times
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification through my training provider helps me to perform better in my role because certain exams which i have sat are very specific to my role in corporation tax. Thus, the technical queries i used to have around my job have been answered by me being allowed to study those specific points. This has definitely improved my quality on the job
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are plenty of extra curricular activities to get involved in at EY. I am myself the social lead in my team which means i get to organise all sorts of fun events for me and my team. I also play 5 a side football regularly with colleagues and there are plenty of opportunities to attend professional networking events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend EY to a friend mainly because of the types of people they hire. i am yet to come across a colleague who i do not particularly like. Every colleague is kind, polite and friendly and this makes a huge difference on working with them day to day
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
My advice to others applying for a job at EY would be to just be yourself. EY specifically hire people based on their personalities (as shown by them scrapping the grade requirements for graduates and apprenticeships). As such, if you are yourself then you will be more relaxed and potentially more likely to be accepted into the job
