Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role of a business analyst means that I work as part of a small highly functioning Agile team. We work on a rolling two week basis known as Sprints. My role involves testing new features that have been built, writing user stories to explain to Developers what needs to be built, running demo sessions internally and to wider teams.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am just over one year into my EY Degree Apprenticeship, and it has been a great journey thus far. The people I work with in my team are very supportive and make the day to day more fun. Everyone is very interested in my progress and they help me whenever I ask.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Recently, I have received feedback and one of the 'going well' points was that my communication is very clear. I like to think that this is something that comes with practice from doing demos to working on written work, so I'm trying to focus on making these clear and easy to understand.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Firstly, the balance between work and study has been very well managed within my team, so I'm grateful for this way of working and my studies have been going well. Within my team at EY, the apprenticeship has been designed in a rotation basis meaning every 4 to 6 months, we get to change roles and try something new.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

As a large global firm, EY has many avenues of supporting employees. Professionally, EY have set up buddies and counsellors for immediate support with work but we also have internal tools and websites we can learn new things.
Personally, the past year has been particularly challenging, EY management stepped up and provided open communication and being understanding of everyone's individual situation.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

QA limited are the training providers of my degree. Generally, they have been quite good with communication however it has been a slight challenge to properly engage in a virtual setting. Other than that, I have direct contact with my Skills Coach who is always happy to help with my queries and questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The first module we studied was 'Understanding Systems Development' and this was amazing because it directly related to the Agile work I was doing day to day. This enabled me to apply my learning to my role but also use my work knowledge to excel at the learning side of things. The modules that followed haven't been too applicable to my role, however I have enjoyed most of them
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are always things to get involved in at EY but finding them is a bit tricky and getting the time away from work too. This has been more difficult while working from home. However the team I work for has been brilliant at providing a non-work space for games and casual chats.

Why?
It is an excellent work experience opportunity, you get to work with some really intelligent people. You are surrounded by motivated colleagues and mentors who support you and want you to progress in your career. The professional and academic skills that you'll inevitably pick up from working at EY will help in your future career plans as well as in your personal life.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Research. Learn about the application process and what they look for. Once you are happy that EY is the place for you, the key is to know as much as you can. Read about the initiatives EY is working on in the public eye but also try doing internal research on your potential team members and reach out to them on LinkedIn, this shows tenacity and enthusiasm.
