I work within assurance to provide data analytics to audit teams in order to achieve an effective and in depth review of a company's financial statements and internal operations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I am very pleased I chose to do an apprenticeship over university. I am being paid well and getting real life experience whilst still benefitting from working towards a degree.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt many new skills. As someone mainly focused within computer science, this apprenticeship has allowed me to begin learning about accounting and investing. I have also been able to develop knowledge around Excel, SQL and other programs used by the company.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I believe EY's programme is structured very effectively. During each university term we will work for four days per week with EY and then study for one day. As well as this there are 2 workshops in which the module leader will provide support around the assignment.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

When working within the company there is a lot of support in place. You are provided a support network which is made up by a qualified senior as well as an apprentice the year above you to help with any difficulties or queries you may have.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Due to the degree being independent from EY there is a different support network assigned to you. Each apprentice is given a "Skills Coach" from the degree provider who provides support around assignments and the year-long portfolio.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My accounting and finance modules have allowed me to improve my knowledge considerably around the audit process and allows me to easier understand financial statements and the wording used within different company declarations.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Due to joining in COVID-19 I have not yet had the opportunity to participate in many social activities. I know that under the usual circumstances there are summer and Christmas parties as well as games nights and "cupcake Friday".

Would you recommend EY to a friend?

Why?
If someone is unsure about whether to choose university or an apprenticeship then I would definitely recommend EY to them. They are a great company to work for. Their commitment to diversity and inclusiveness means the culture is extremely welcoming and allows you to feel comfortable as a new joiner.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
I would advise them to be themselves. EY are not so much looking for the academic achievement but instead want people who they believe can be future intrapreneurs and leaders. Show confidence in yourself and portray that you also represent the company's values.
