Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Help out on various tax projects and transactions. This may include admin exercises, or even helping form a report for the client. There is a large range of activities and every day is different.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
So far, I have thoroughly enjoyed my programme. I have learnt so much (whether that be from training, college or on the job) about the topic of tax. My colleagues have been incredibly friendly and welcoming, especially in a particularly difficult situation.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes - lots of new skills. I have learnt a lot about timekeeping and staying on top of things, and so much about the way I work. I have developed other skills, like communication and efficient delivery of tasks throughout my Apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Very well structured. I have a lot of support on the apprenticeship side of things, and I know well in advance when my college/tax training is. However, I have received slightly less communication with regards to the professional qualification and tasks we have to do.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
A lot - there are many support networks available to us if we need. We have a range of people to go to as well; buddies, a counsellor and several coaches.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
All the support I need! We are provided with books from ICAEW, as well as the training provider's own notes. We can contact our tutors outside of working hours, and even then can contact other tutors/request a call. Brilliant support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel that the qualification has really helped me understand the working world more. There are ethics modules, and some words and concepts that appear in our exams (for example) have appeared in my day to day role, and I have been able to understand them and the context more.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Many - social activities within the team and even different clubs we can join. I have had less experience of this due to Covid restrictions, but there are a lot of initiatives we can take part in too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Amazing people, prestigious start to a career, brilliant qualification (Chartered Accountant) and a very well respected level 7 apprenticeship.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Learn about the company, particularly the messages/initiatives that are outlined on the website. Also, understanding the culture of the company is very important. Prepare for interviews, maths skills and practice speaking about different topics.
