Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work in the audit sector. Currently I support more senior team members with completing required tasks, while also taking on responsibility for my own areas. This may include carrying out testing, calls with the client, completing documentation and various other relevant tasks. I also discuss issues identified with my team and ensure possible resolution and relevant next steps are identified.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The programme is very enjoyable, as there is always a lot more to learn. However, the hours can be exceedingly long and the tasks difficult if attempted without the proper instruction and support. On some accounts, large amounts of data must be handled, and an eye for detail is key.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes. New skills learnt include client collaboration, improved organisation and increased technical knowledge, while developing existing skills has included becoming more proficient in using Excel, more efficient in communicating with team mates and the client, while also increasing my overall independence and experience within the sectors of accounting and audit.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is very well structured, especially since it has been running for a number of years already. There is a dedicated team to whom you can turn for help in all aspects of the programme. The schedule for work and exams is relatively well-balanced, as work does not interfere with time for study.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The majority of the support comes from your team and colleagues, however there are also Apprenticeship Coaches to whom you can turn to for help, as well as having a Counsellor and being able to connect with the other Apprentices. The overall culture is also of understanding towards the additional requirements of study and the possible difficulties therein.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider has very experienced and knowledgeable tutors, who have had experience within the fields they teach and so are well able to deliver teaching on those topics. The tutors are also very willing to help answer any questions and explain difficult areas in more detail. There are lots of online resources too.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Through learning more about the theory of accounting, it is a great deal more easier to understand the work allocated and know what to look for when completing a task for an audit. In learning the theory, carrying out the practice is made more simple, while the team are also happy to help explain areas.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There is a large number of networks and societies, such as an Arts Club, a Women's Network, and so on. These networks host events regularly to which attendance is open to all, which also helps with continuing any hobbies or interests. Networking events are slightly less common, but it is possible to network with individuals both within and outside the peer group.

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Although the hours might be difficult, in completing this Apprenticeship I have learned so much and had so many opportunities which it would be difficult to gain elsewhere. In having my study and exams paid for and organised by the firm, it is a great deal easier to receive the qualification.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
Be prepared to work hard, however not everything is work all the time! Definitely get involved in the opportunities that are there. Focusing on your study is also key, especially since there are real consequences to failing exams, but the firm does provide good support and help in those areas.
